Monaco Grand Prix
Rent an apartment in Nice for the Monaco Grand Prix Check Availability of Nice Apartments to Rent for the Grand Prix Weekend! The Grand Prix de Monaco is probably the world's best known formula one grand prix event. Winding spectacularly through the actual streets of the principality the Monaco Grand Prix is not just a sporting highlight but a social one too. With little room for driver error the race runs for 77 laps and is arguably the most exciting motorsport event in the world. The Grand Prix de Monaco is not just for petrol-heads though! This weekend long event is in the third week of May (22-25th 2008, 21-24th 2009 and 20-23rd 2010) is hugely popular with movie stars, other sports stars and holiday makers keen to soak up the glamour, excitement and buzz as the whole country builds up to the race. Most people stay in Nice (15 miles away with great travel connections) as the hotels in Monaco get packed out and the rates become stratospherically high! Talking of high prices: some Monaco residents rent out the terraces of their apartments, we have seen prices as high as 140,000 euros for the 4 days (that is NOT a typo!)! All the great drivers through history have competed at Monaco. The most successful Monaco Grand Prix driver is Ayrton Senna with 6 victories. Britain's Graham Hill (dubbed "Mr Monaco") was the first 5 times and 4 times winner). Another Briton, Stirling Moss was the first 3 times winner and great Argentinian, Juan Manuel Fangio the first double winner. The very first ever Monaco Grand Prix was in 1929 and was won by British driver William Grover-Williams in a Bugatti. For fans of classic and historic car racing the Historic Grand Prix of Monaco takes place every two (even numbered) years over the same lap as the formula one race on the weekend before the F1 event. There are dozens of races for the different class of car and the atmosphere is very friendly and inviting. We really recommend a visit - you can get up close to the cars and talk freely with the drivers ... something rather more difficult with the pampered and protected F1 superstars.
