Mougins
Nice Apartments - Choice of Apartments in Nice to Rent The old medieval town of Mougins is a short drive from both Nice and Cannes. This tranquil town cum village is well worth a visit for both the quality of the restaurants and the many art galleries. Picasso spent the last few years of his life in Mougins but he was by no means the first or only artist to discover this hilltop fortified village. Picasso first lived in Mougins between the wars (along with Cocteau and other artists of the time) - local lore has it that the cash strapped young Pablo paid for his rent by painting murals on the walls of his house. Today there are still many artists here along with wealthy second home owners ... not all of them the most desirable: Haitian dictator Baby Doc Duvalier used to live here! Perhaps today Mougins is best known for its food. Super-star restauranteur Roger Verge bought Le Moulin de Mougins in 1969 and gourmands from around the World have been coming here to sample his sublime cuisine since. In 2004 Alain Lorca, from the Negresco joined Le Moulin and that tradition looks set to continue. Mougins other eateries have all raised their game to try and compete. Serge Gouloumes at La Candille is also World class. Return from Mougins to Nice City Vacation Home Page
