Nice Shopping Guide: The Flower Market, The Food Markets and the Antiques Market
Coming to Nice shopping? Then stay in one of these Nice apartments! For a great Nice shopping experience you just have to visit some of the wonderful markets: fragrant flowers, wonderful foods and collectible antiques. The most famous Nice market is the spectacular flower market on Cours Saleya. In fact it is a flower and fresh produce market (fruit, vegetables, cheese, spices, olive oils etc) - the morning flower market not only looks beautiful but smells divine too. Cours Saleya itself (the market square) is fringed by various shops, bars and restaurants and is the perfect place to meet up with friends or sit and people watch over a coffee. Open every day of the week, from dawn til noon, except Monday (when it morphs into an antiques market) the flower market is worth a special trip even if you aren't self catering. Bring your camera!During the summer months there is an evening market at Cours Saleya. This time the items for sale are art and craft pieces: leather handbags, belts and wallets, jewellery, pictures, lamps, souvenirs etc. Some of what's on offer is "tourist tat" but there are still some lovely gift ideas to be found here. Not quite as famous, and certainly not quite as fragrant as the flower market, is the fish market on Place St François. Again held every day except Mondays this small and busy open air fish market offers you piles of local caught and exotic fresh fish and shellfish. The market stall holders are knowledgeable and can guide and help you. Incidentally the butchers next door to the fish market is one of the finest in Nice.
